Richard Mille and motorsport are fundamentally bound, the company founder’s passion for racing and watchmaking is what lead to the creation of the brand. One of the key strategic decisions made very early on by the eponymous founder was that Richard Mille the watchmaker would focus on modern designs using the same processes and principles that are used by racing car teams. Therefore, achieving maximum performance by using the most advanced techniques and materials became the focus and the cost of production became an afterthought.

Ever since the beginning back in 2002, Richard Mille as a brand has been a stalwart supporter of the Le Mans Classic historical racing event. Not only has the brand been a sponsor of the event for all this time but the company decided to go one step further starting in 2008 by releasing its very own special limited-edition watch dedicated to the event. From that point onwards it became a tradition within the company to release a new special limited edition watch to celebrate the event every two years. The 2022 edition is no different, Richard Mille is releasing a limited-edition collection of 150 RM 029 Automatic Winding Le Mans Classic timepieces. (See image below) The colour scheme mimics the iconic green and white of one of the most famous historic racing events in the world. To mark the centenary of the first every race on the Le Mans 24-hour track, the Le Mans Classic is exceptionally being held again in 2023 and it is without doubt that Richard Mille will have prepared something special to celebrate.
One of the main reasons for supporting this event besides the brand’s motorsport history is that it is a great opportunity for visibility at a highly covered event. Moreover, the target audience of such a race share a lot of resemblance with the clients of Richard Mille. Having enough disposable income to be able to own a historical car and have it raced at Le Mans is a good indicator that the same person may have enough disposable income for an iconic Richard Mille timepiece.
